You've spent the last hour rocking your baby to bed. Exhausted, you look forward to a shower or maybe a bite to eat, and a minute to breathe where childcare isn't your primary concern.
But try to lay your baby down and that little rascal immediately wakes up.
This is a story most parents can relate to. If you are a petite parent, say below 5'4", transferring babies to a crib can be even harder.
Drop Side Cribs
If it were possible to just drop one side of the crib, it would be much easier to maneuver a sleeping baby into position.
Back in 2012 it became illegal to sell or manufacture drop side cribs, where parents could drop one side of the crib. This was on the back of a number of CPSC crib recalls, citing laceration, fall, malfunction risk.
The cribs we chose are mostly Greenguard Gold Certified: Screened for over 10,000 chemicals and VOCs known to pollute indoor air. This certification was established by a global independent safety science company.
This solid wood crib with rounded spindled legs has a modern, eco-friendly design where visible screws are eliminated. It has 4 adjustable mattress positions and is Greenguard gold certified. It converts from crib to toddler bed or day bed and satisfies ASTM International and US CPSC safety standards.
Made of New Zealand pinewood, this Greenguard gold certified crib converts easily from crib to toddler bed or day bed, to full size bed. It even has an extra trundle drawer underneath for storage. Satisfies ASTM International and US CPSC safety standards.
With 4 adjustable mattress positions, this crib is made out of 100% solid New Zealand pine wood. It converts from crib to toddler bed, day bed, and full sized bed. To certify non toxicity, it is Greenguard gold certified. The main difference from some of the other options is in style, with one side raised higher like a headboard (at 41 7/8").
This Baby Mod crib made in Taiwan features clean lines, sleek straight slats, and rounded legs that are relatively baby friendly. It converts from crib to toddler bed or day bed, and is Greenguard gold certified. Satisfies ASTM International and US CPSC safety standards.
The Union crib is also Greenguard gold certified and comes in at the most affordable price of the low profile cribs we've seen. Perhaps because of that, there tend to be a few more negative reviews, but for those on a budget, plenty of parents seem satisfied with this crib. It also happens to be the shortest crib.
The Storkcraft Hillcrest Convertible Crib is a 4 in 1 crib that can convert to a toddler bed, day bed, and full size bed. It has a 3 position adjustable mattress height and satisfies JPMA, CSPC, and ASTM standards.
It's relatively cheaper than the rest, though it's not Greenguard gold certified.
Getting a baby to sleep can be a battle. It becomes all the more frustrating when you think you're done and as soon as you try to put your baby down, the wails start.
All you want is for your baby to stay asleep a bit longer so you can get things done!
If you have difficulty reaching far into the crib and gently laying the baby down, try one of these lower profile cribs.
